Eric Roddy is a professional pickleball player on the PPA Tour, competing in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles out of Charlotte, North Carolina. One of the sport’s most distinctive backgrounds underpins his game: a standout collegiate tennis career, a coaching résumé, an MBA, fluency in Spanish, and even a stint in sports media.

Roddy grew up playing baseball, basketball, football, and tennis before committing fully to tennis at age 12. He went on to play at Sewanee: The University of the South, a Division III program in the mountains of Tennessee, where he became an All-American—ranking as high as #2 in the country in doubles and inside the top 40 in singles. A crafty, net-rushing style built on slice and a long wingspan would later prove tailor-made for pickleball.

After college he coached, beginning with a year in A Coruña, Spain (where he became fluent in Spanish), then served as interim men’s head tennis coach at Swarthmore College. While earning his MBA at the University of Georgia in 2020, he volunteered with the women’s tennis team—and it was there that pro pickleball standout Drake Bernstein taught him the game on a homemade backyard court. Roddy played his first tournament on the APP Tour in 2021, moved to Charlotte after graduating in 2022, and committed to pursuing pickleball professionally, earning a PPA Tour contract in the fall of 2023.

Known for consistent, heady play and sharp shot selection, Roddy has landed on SportsCenter’s Top 10, and represented MLP franchises including the Bay Area Breakers and the Atlanta Bouncers. He has remarkably balanced his pro career with a full-time job at Bank of America. Off the court, he teaches pickleball, plays golf, and is a devoted fan of the band Goose.
